Clematis, Sweet Autumn

Clematis terniflora

Description

Clematis terniflora (Sweet Autumn Clematis) A popular flowering perennial vine that produces small aromatic white flowers late in summer. This beautiful vine grows quickly and can put on a couple feet of growth each year. This vine blooms on new wood, meaning right after the current flowers fade you will want to prune your plant. Pruning at this time of growth also means you are removing the seed heads, preventing the vine from seeding itself around. You may cut it back hard to about 1 foot off the ground to help control its growth, or prune less heavily if you would like the vine to fill in a large area.

Give this plant, as with most vines, room to grow on a proper support to prevent it from climbing in unwanted areas. This would look great draped over an arbor or climbing along a fence.
