Crabapple, Brandywine

Malus 'Brandywine'

Description

An upright, broad-rounded growth habit with long season interest. Deep rose-red buds evolve into double pink, rose-like blossoms and appear in mid-spring. Flowers are followed by abundant clusters of 1 inch green, cherry-like fruits that mature in the fall and can be used to make jelly. Spring leaves emerge brick-red, turning dark green with a reddish tint in summer before turning reddish-purple in fall. Branches are prized for its silvery color in the winter. Excellent resistance to mildew and urban pollution. Fruits are NOT persistent.
