Cypress, Blue Ice Arizona

Cupressus arizonica 'Blue Ice'

Description

Arizona cypress offers a nice alternative to the Colorado Blue Spruce that has dominated landscapes for decades.

Compared to the Blue Spruce, the Arizona Cypress is more tolerant of drought (when established) and adapts reliably to our stubborn alkaline soils.

It has brilliant silver blue, lacy foliage, similar in color to the Colorado spruce, and becomes equivalent in size to a spruce as well, if not slightly narrower (35' tall and 20' wide).

Look for beautifully exfoliating bark as the tree ages. Its graceful form makes it a striking lawn specimen but it can accommodate regular shearing for a tastefully hedged screen.
