Description

Once abundent along the River Nile throught Egypt and Southern Sudan, papyrus was an important plant in ancient times. Including the infamous papyrus scrolls, it was also used to make other goods such as boats, mats , ropes, sandles and many other useful products. Now nearly extinct in the wild it has found much favor in the ornamental water garden. Payprus is a very impressive plant grown as a specimen or structural plant, reaching 6' to 10' tall, 3' to 4' wide and topped with 10'' balls of thin long green leaves. Papyrus is hardy to zone 8 in full sun and moist soil or water up  to 12'' deep. Store in doors for winter or treat as annual.
