Kentucky Coffee Tree, Espresso

Gymnocladus dioicus 'Espresso-JFS' Espresso

Description

Espresso Kentucky Coffeetree is a top choice for reliable shade casting in northern Utah, especially in urban areas with buildings and hard surfaces.

These fast growing trees are heat, drought and cold tolerant and, though they bloom, are a truly fruitless variety.  Great for urban environments.  In fact, city planners love Coffeetrees for their strong tap roots, making them perfect as street trees and for planting near hardscapes.

With moderate growth, they eventually form a tall, rugged, vase-shaped canopy with beautiful fissured bark. Their ferny foliage turns gold in the fall, resembling ash trees.

An added bonus is that their roots fixate nitrogen from the air and soil, allowing them to thrive in various soil conditions.
