Description
Lily (Lilium) – Elegant, Classic Garden Blooms
Lily flowers (genus Lilium) are among the most beloved and widely grown garden plants, admired for their graceful form, vivid colors, and timeless beauty. Known as “true lilies,” they are distinct from similarly named plants like lily of the valley or calla lilies.
These herbaceous perennials produce striking, trumpet-shaped or star-like blooms in a wide spectrum of colors—from pure white to deep, rich saturations of colors. Many of which are accented with 'freckles' or soft color changing gradients.
Lillies thrive in a range of garden settings, from borders to naturalized landscapes. Mature plants can vary greatly in height, from 2 up to 6 feet tall. Stems produces multiple blooms, making lilies a standout choice for both garden displays and cut flower arrangements. The foliage does vary depending on the family of Lily, for some it is long and grass-like, and for others it is short and almost spiky.
Asiatic Lilies
Easy to grow and highly reliable, Asiatic lilies offer vibrant colors and high bud counts. Blooming mid-spring to early summer, they are typically unscented—ideal for adding bold color without fragrance. A great flower for bouquets.
Martagon Lilies
Recognizable by their downward-facing, “Turk’s cap” flowers with recurved petals, Martagon lilies are early bloomers that bring height and elegance, sometimes reaching up to 6 feet tall.
Oriental Lilies
Known for their large, intensely fragrant flowers, Oriental lilies bloom in mid to late summer. Their rich colors and bold patterns make them a favorite for gardens and floral design.
Trumpet Lilies
Tall and eye-catching, Trumpet lilies produce long, waxy, trumpet-shaped flowers with a powerful fragrance. They bloom in mid-summer and often carry multiple blooms per stem.
Tiger Lilies
With bright orange petals speckled with dark spots, Tiger lilies bring a bold, natural look to the garden. They are hardy, easy to grow, and bloom in mid to late summer.
Whether planted in borders, containers, or cutting gardens, lilies offer unmatched elegance and seasonal color, making them a staple for gardeners of all experience levels.
