Maple, Regal Petticoat Sycamore

Acer pseudoplatanus 'Tunpetti'

Description

This medium-fast growing tree is an incredible addition to any Utah landscape. Not only can these beautiful trees tolerate any pH level, which is fantastic for those with secondary water, they can also handle clay soil as well as the high heat of summer. And, once established, are moderately drought tolerant. They are known for having very few samaras (seeds) if any, unless the tree is experiencing extreme stress. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments. The globe shaped canopy provides ample shade and can be easily trimmed as it grows to allow plenty of space beneath the branches.

When Regal Petticoat Sycamore's break dormancy, the new growth is olive green tinged with burgundy on the edges along with bright red petioles. The leaves mature to a glossy dark green with velvety purple undersides through the summer. In the fall, the leaves turn bright yellow with pinkish undersides. These trees are truly beautiful throughout the entire season.
