Mosquito Fern / Fairy Moss

Description

Not only does Azzola look like a tiny floating fern, this aquatic is classified a true fern. In still waters it can rapidly spread forming a dense matt across the water. In full sun in our high desert climate it takes on a red coloration, in filtered sun it is a bright green color. If it becomes too much for the pond, skim and place in the compost pile or perennial bed as this plant has nitrogen fixing properties. True carolinia should survive the winter frozen in ice or come back from spores dropped to the bottom of the pond. zone 4
