Description
Oxalis are also known as False Shamrocks. The leaves resemble a shamrock and can be green, to variegated, to deep maroon. They can be used in containers with other shade loving annuals and also make excellent houseplants. The exhibit a phenomenon known as nyctinasty where the plant sensed light quality and its leaflets will droop in response to the onset of darkness. They get white to pink 5-petaled flowers that bloom in clusters in spring to summer and also close at night. They thrive in bright indirect light. They are toxic upon consumption, so keep out of reach of small children and pets. Zones 8-11
